On Campus

The Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian and Transgender Union (BGLTU) did a great job of pulling together a series of programs to celebrate National Coming Out Week, October 11 - 16th. The schedule of the week is below: Sunday, October 10th: The week kicked off with an hour of original music by Eddie Murphy '99 in Currier Ballroom. Based loosely around the theme of love and heartache, Eddie performed his own songs, including one composed on the way out to Williamstown that weekend!

Monday, October 11th: National Coming Out Day. Rainbow pins and stickers were given out in Baxter mailroom starting on Monday and lasting through the entire week.

Tuesday, October 12th: "Being Out at Williams" was the topic of the BGLTU meeting for the week. There was a good turnout at Hardy House to talk about what it means to be out on campus.

Wednesday, October 13th: Director of the Health Center and good friend of the Williams queer community, Donna Denelli-Hess led the "Sex Jam" - a safe sex discussion at Hardy House. With the rare ability to make people feel comfortable talking about sex, Donna led a wonderful discussion, handed out condoms and other supplies, and got people asking the questions on their minds.

Friday, October 15th: Local independent theater and the recent site of more and more queer film screenings, Images on Spring Street hosted a queer night at the movies with a screening of "Better Than Chocolate." And what National Coming Out Week would be complete without... Saturday, October 16th: The Queer Bash. Thanks to Social Coordinators Andrew Singer '00 and Heather Heyes '02, Currier Ballroom was aglow with black lights for this year's "Blackout" Party!
